Help me build a new progressive educational resource (and sign up for my new mailing list)

Dear readers,

After poring over the shelves at bookstores and searching online with little success for progressive educational activity books, I’ve decided I need to create some myself. I’ve been very disturbed by the way the No Child Left Behind legislation has gutted arts, music, science, history, and cultural studies teaching and learning in U.S. classrooms. We need resources to fill that gap, and I think I’m in a good place to create some.

You can read in greater detail about my reasoning at the Learning Trails Media home page.

I want these activity books to cover topics that are interesting and a bit out of the ordinary, while still contributing to students’ cultural literacy. For example, I’m already pulling together material for a book on Mexican Folk Art, and I hope to produce one as well on local foodways.

As I begin development of these resources, I’d love to get your input on what you’d like to see in activity books for K-8 students. What topics are important to you, and why? What topics get your kids excited about learning?

You can leave your comments below or e-mail me at leslie -at- multiculturaltoybox -dot- com.

Thanks again for your support.

Best,

Leslie

P.S. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter by using the form in the right-hand column here on The Multicultural Toybox. When you sign up, you’ll get access to a free report I wrote on how to get the most out of museum visits with your children.

P.P.S. What parenting and education forums, if any, do you frequent? I’m looking especially for progressive forums, whether they be focused on general parenting, homeschooling, education, or related topics. Thanks!
